A Puffin History

In the 1990s, they became an imprint of Penguin Random House. Penguin’s founder, Sir Allen Lane, desired to create affordable, quality books for all. In 1935, he founded Penguin Random House (alongside brothers Richard and John) and began to revolutionise the literary world.

  1. More About Paddington by Michael Bond, 1966

More About Paddington by Michael Bond, 1966

While recent film versions have re-popularised this charming Peruvian bear, the on screen stories merely scratch at the surface of Michael Bonds twenty-eight Paddington stories. Fond of marmalade, especially in sandwiches, Paddington Bear is a polite, thoughtful and charismatic character. Despite his good intentions, he is however prone to mishaps. In this book, for example, his attempt to redecorate a room leads to him papering over the door! Paddington is a much-loved character in children’s literature and has successfully entertained young readers for decades!

  2. Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper, 1968

Driven by curiosity, the children begin an exciting though perilous quest!

Here, they become immersed in a lost world, where dinosaurs still walk and the natives fight murderous battles with their neighbours. The book is a lively read, ideal for slightly older children who, like Ed Malone, are in search of an adventure!

Through all his crazy misadventures, he somehow manages to keep track of his five pairs of glasses which all balance on top of his head!
