A New Adventure: The Best Adventure Books for the New Decade

3 min read

And that's a wrap on the 2010s, folks! We hope you all had a fantastic decade, made great memories, achieved whatever goals you set for yourselves, and experienced all the adventures you wanted to experience. But, now that we're rolling into the 2020s, it's time to start planning whatever adventures you want to tackle next - and to get you feeling particularly adventurous, we've compiled a list of the most exciting (and timeless) adventure books and novels to get you started on the right foot!

The Hobbit

Arguably the greatest adventure story of all, The Hobbit is the story that began not only Tolkien's epic Middle-Earth legendarium, but also epic fantasy as we know it today. Featuring imaginative landscapes, heroic acts of courage, and fascinating lore, this is the perfect classic fantasy book to get stuck into if - in the words of Bilbo Baggins - you're quite ready for another adventure!

The Lord of the Rings

Continuing from The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings makes its predecessor read like a walk through the park in comparison. Evolving Tolkien's legendarium from from a story suitable for children to a vast and epic adventure recognised as one of the most memorable fantasy journeys in history, The Lord of the Rings could even encourage a hermit to get out there and embrace the outdoors.

Treasure Island

Or if great adventures across the land don't rock your boat... how about ones across the sea? Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story Treasure Island may be well over a century old, but that doesn't mean it has lost any of its swashbuckling, sword-swinging, rum-drinking, treasure-hunting magic. We all have a rebellious little scoundrel somewhere inside of us, and there's no better tale to read if you want to awaken your inner-pirate for a while.

The Story of Peter Pan

The classic story of Peter Pan and his thrilling adventures across Neverland never ceases to bring the child in all of us back to life, no matter our age or how much time has passed since we last experienced it. Staying young forever is every child's dream and, while we can't offer you that, we can offer you the opportunity to return to your youth for just a little time with this wonderful work by J.M. Barrie.

Alice in Wonderland

Another fantastical children's story that's well-known and beloved for its escapism, and the magical sense of wanderlust it provides, is Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. From talking cats and caterpillars to the legendary Mad Hatter and co., we all undoubtedly have fond memories of this wild and otherworldly adventure. And now, in the dawn of a new decade, what better way to reignite that old wanderlust than with an old, classic adventure?

Around the World in Eighty Days

Moving away from the fantastical and towards adventures that take place in our own world, Around the World in Eighty Days is an inspiring account of what a person can achieve when they set their mind to it. After reading this famous worldwide adventure story, you'll be ready to take on the world - literally!
