Reader's note

This beautiful, classic King Penguin, is complete with all the full colour illustrations that make this series so celebrated! This book details the amazing wild flowers that are able to grow within naturally occuring chalk in England. Author John Gilmour really speaks with passion as he comments on how rare wild flowers grow within old minig pits - The hand of nature and the hand of man, each in its own way, has laid bare the face of chalk - as sea cliffs, and as pits dur for lime. No botanist can pass a chalk pit unexplored. Often its grassy slopes give sanctuary to downland species long since gone from the neighbourhood. In a Cambridgeshire pit, for example, can still be found the few remaining plants of a man orchid in the country. - excellent and informative, this wonderful book is the perfect gift for any nature lover!
