Reader's note

A wonderful copy of The Strait Gate by Annie S. Swan. Jack and Philip Heyward are two very different brothers. Jack, bright, happy and selfless, is the younger of the two. While his senior, Philip, is moody and hard-working. Their widowed mother has recently lost her money in a financial scam and they have very differing ways of thinking of what to do. ‘Evidently they had been discussing some matter of grave importance, for the faces of both wore an anxious, troubled look. “Of course, I am extremely sorry for our mother, Jack,” said Philip at length; “but, really, I warned her some time ago that the concern in which she had invested her means was not safe.”’
