This volume was produced for the members of the Readers Union only. The first edition of the English mans food was published in 1939 shortly before the outbreak of war. The unique character of the work created a wide interest which has not died in the intervening years and in response to a widespread demand the publisher decided it was desirable to issue a second edition. Sir Jack Drummond had intended to produce such an edition himself, but his tragic death, together with that of his wife and daughter, came before he had found time to make the necessary revisions - or indeed notes for a revision. In the circumstances the publishers secured the services of Dolly Hollingsworth, who worked with Drummond at the ministry of food, to prepare a new edition. This is a rare gem and touches upon so many topics that any reader could find something to enjoy in this wonderful illustrated book.
