Reader's note

When the moon is full at Blandings Castle, strange things happen. While on a stroll to stretch his legs after the long journey to the castle, Colonel Wedge thought himself to be alone with nothing but nature. ‘The shock of discovering that what he had taken for an old pile of clothes was alive and had relation by marriage caused him to speak a little sharply.’ It was in fact Clarence ninth Earl of Emsworth, ‘listening to his pig’. The story tells of the Colonel endeavoring to steer his daughter Veronica into the arms of Tipton Plimsoll, a young American of fabulous wealth, aided by his resourceful Uncle Gally.
