Reader's note

Green and beautifully patterned! This excellent book is not one to be missed! The story is truly a puzzle as the titular documents are properly introduced in Chapter II 'The three documents' - These pieces of paper, nearly destroyed by sea water, had evidently been written upon, but the lines were half effaced. Lord Glenarvan examined them attentively during several minutes, turned them in every direction, held them up to the light, noticed the last traces of writing respected by the sea, and said - 'There are three distinct documents and they are evidently copies of the same, translated into three languages - English, French and German' 'Can you make any sense of them?' Asked Lady Glenarvan. 'I am trying to do so, but the words are incomplete' - the book then provides examples of how they are written! It really builds up the mystery in an authentic way! A fine addition to any antique library!
