Reader's note

For this marvellous story Tolkien has created his own mythology, and woven a spell-binding tale around the momentous struggle for the magic Ring; the eternal struggle between Good & Evil. He gives us a fantastic diversity of scene (wars, migrations, even whole epoch), and of characters - dwarves, elves, dragons, as well as races of men. And never for a moment during the 1,000- page tale does his inspiration flag, and nor does the readers belief in the magical world Tolkien has created. Lord of the Rings has been a favourite of many readers for years and allows lovers of fantasy to escape to another world. Tolkien's writing has inspired many other fantasy authors and has allowed many children's imaginations to run wild! Why not go on an adventure into this magical world that Tolkien created.
