Reader's note

This is a lovely blue first edition of Daphne du Maurier’s Hungry Hill. It is a family saga of epic proportions that is based on the Irish ancestors of Daphne du Maurier's friend Christopher Puxley. The story spans over 100 years from 1820 to 1920 and follows the lives of five generations of the Brokdrick family, Irish landowners, who live in Clonmere Castle. “On the third of March, 18020, john Broderick set out from Andriff to Doohaven, interesting to cover the fifteen miles of his journey before nightfall. It was typical south-westerly weather, the clouds travelling low, and the soft, blustering wind bringing scattered showers that hell heavy for five minutes and then passed, leaving a space of blue no ranger than a man’s fist in the sky, with a glimpse of a sun that promised nothing.”
