Reader's note

A wonderful copy of Ernest Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not. Harry Morgan owns a fishing boat in Key West during the Great Depression. One day he is cheated by a wealthy customer who leaves without paying for a three-week fishing trip, which leaves Harry destitute and stuck in Havana. In financial desperation, Harry agrees to smuggling people and alcohol between Cuba and Florida. The difference in lifestyles and outlooks between the Haves and the Have Nots are reflections of the troubles that each face with the Depression, and Hemingway portrays the desperations and hardships each face and shows how even the most honest and courageous people can become corrupted by economic misfortune.
