Lewis' An Experiment in Criticism. Professor Lewis believed that literature exists above all for the joy of the reader and that books should be judged by the kind of reading they invite. He doubted the use of strictly evaluative criticism, and especially of its condemnations. Literary criticism is traditionally employed on judging books, and 'bad taste' is thought of as a taste for bad books. Professor Lewis' experiment consists in reversing the process, and adjusting literature itself by the way men read it. He defined a good book as one which can be read in a certain way, a bad book as one which can only be read in another.","brand":"Country House Library","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":39838287888471,"sku":"7835303","price":9.79,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/2458\/8207\/products\/orig_242847_jpg.jpg?v=1658317283","url":"https:\/\/countryhouselibrary.co.uk\/products\/cs-lewis-an-experiment-in-criticism-1965","provider":"Country House Library ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
