Reader's note

J.R.R. Tolkien is the master of the fantasy genre and he has inspired other authors such as J.K. Rowling with his imaginative writing. The Silmarillion though published last, is an account of the Elder Days which are of the First Age. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part in. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-Earth, and the High Elves waged war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. This book is a work of unparalleled and sustained imagination and would make a wonderful gift for anyone who enjoys fantasy and adventure books.
