Reader's note

Ed Hillary, the boy on his father’s bee-farm who had never seen snow or mountains, grew up to be Sir Edward Hillary, conqueror of Everest, and one of the greatest adventurers of our time. The story of how he first became a climber in his native New Zealand, went to the Himalayas, and had his first touch at Everest with Eric Skipton, is most vividly told: as are the dangers faced by Sir John Hunt’s expedition and triumphantly overcome. The story is crowned by Sir Edmund’s later adventures in the Antarctic. This would be a unique read for any climber to enjoy
